SECOND SATURDAY 2nd OF LENT
“In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.” (Isaiah 6,1-2 ESV)
I have always been fascinated by this vision of the prophet Isaiah. I am so thankful that this is recorded for us because I have not yet experienced this theophany at the level that he, the prophet, did. I have experienced the Prophet’s confession: “Woe to me, I cried, I am ruined, For I am a man of unclean lips”. This is repentance, the awareness of the holiness of God that leads to self-awareness of our sinfulness. God’s holiness puts us in danger.[1] As we prepare for Sunday morning worship, let us pray that we become aware of our need for forgiveness, repentance, and the majesty of God.
Holy God, you come to us as one unfamiliar . . . the power of your presence overturns all our expectations. May we hear and receive your word of danger, that we may also receive your word of comfort. Amen.[2]
