Third MONDAY 4th/ MARCH OF LENT
“Come to me, all who labour and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
(Matthew 11,28-30 ESV)
It is good to be reminded of what Jesus is saying here. This is his invitation to take his yoke and learn from him. You may feel tired, heavy-laden, and under much pressure, and maybe Monday is the most challenging day of the week.
Jesus is gentle and tender-hearted. He is meek and majestic; he made himself a servant, a man to help us.
Those who carry this yoke, and thus learn from him, have a great promise: “ . . . you will find rest for your souls. “That is the end. This rest is the last thing, and it is already here under the yoke of Jesus. It is yoked together with him in gentleness and humility. But only there where all burdens fall will we find the complete rest that we long for.1
