Third THURSDAY 7th/ MARCH OF LENT

“LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.”
(Habakkuk 3,2 NIV11-GKE)

These words are written by one of my favourite minor prophets, Habakkuk. We understand the concept of minor prophets not in terms of their lesser importance but the volume of their prophetic writings. Habakkuk and other minor prophets have written powerful prophetic words declaring God’s will for his people and nations and describing to us the heart of a God who is most powerful. Oh, how long and how much we need his mercy in this merciless and warlike world, we need his mercy.

In times of deep conflict and passionate disagreement,
God, show me the way, your way.
When I must be firm, God, let me be just.
When I must be strong, God, let me be compassionate.
When I must stand in judgment, God, let me be merciful.
Amen.¹
