FOURTH SATURDAY 16th/ MARCH OF LENT
“They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.”
(Psalm 22,18 NIV11-GKE)
“When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.”
(Matthew 27,35-36 NIV11-GKE)
This is a prophetic reference to the wounds Jesus suffered in his crucifixion, but also it is a reference to the naked body of Jesus. Jesus was exposed to be seen as the consequence of a punishment conferred to him because he was King.
This is humiliation and cruelty, and it is robbing Jesus of his own dignity. Jesus, therefore, on that cross was portrayed and treated as a criminal. He was exposed in full view of those watching him, and his garments were torn and used as a betting mantel.
You laid aside, Your majesty
Gave up everything for me
Suffered at the hands of those You had created
You took away my guilt and shame
When You died and rose again
Now today You reign
And heaven and earth exalt You1
