I can testify to that, as can millions of people, past and present, whom the Holy Spirit saves.
There needs to be more understanding of how the Holy Spirit works for salvation. But first, let us be clear as to why we need to be saved. I know many morally right people who live their lives upholding the law and with good ethics.
I also know people who have lived lives embracing all kinds of questionable behaviours, lives full of rebellion. The truth is that we are all on the same page; we are, by nature, full of rebellion, masters of our own kingdom, and the motivating force of this kingdom, the sin in us and the enemy of our lives.
Paul said that we cannot save ourselves, even if we try by being good.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”(Romans 3,23 NLT-SE), and he also said, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6,23 ESV).

We all have sinned, and we could never meet God’s standards, and because we are sinners, the payment for the sin in our lives will lead us to eternal death. That is that payment of sin, death. Paul said that the remedy for the state of our lives is found in Jesus. He is the gift; his promise of salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life is there for us to come and accept. We cannot earn or buy it; it is a gift, and it is too precious and costly.

If we accept the gift of Jesus, we will be saved and enjoy eternity as we were ordained before sin entered the heart of humanity. Therefore, the Holy Spirit comes to us firstly to convict us of our sins, as John 16:8 says. When we are under the total weight of conviction, our hearts are open, ready to be transformed and made new, just as Jesus would:

“ I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.”(John 3,5 NLT-SE).

When this happens, the Holy Spirit comes and dwells in us, and we become Jesus’s abode. The Holy Spirit helps us by convicting us, and by coming to live within us, he is involved in our Salvation, just as Jesus said he would.

“He saved us—not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy—through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3,5 CSB17)

Pray, repent of your sins, let Jesus forgive you and let the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, give you a new life, a life where you and I become the dwelling of God’s presence.
