Empowering Sanctification: Partnering with the Holy Spirit for Spiritual Growth

Learn – Inspiration – Vision – Encounter

The Holy Spirit is active and working in us. His goal is to make us more like the Lord Jesus. This work is called sanctification, a process by which the Holy Spirit teaches, and transforms us from the very core of our beings.

Why do we need to be sanctified? Simply because our God is Holy and Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, not man’s seed. It is important that we do not lose sight of this; it is crucial to understand the need to be holy as Jesus is.
Secondly, as I said before, and as the New Testament teaches, we are the temples of the Holy Spirit, and he can’t influence or guide us if we are living lives that are not worthy of the call we have received. See Eph.4:1. When we fail to live faithfully, two things happen: First, we quench the Holy Spirit 1 Thess.5:19, and we grieve the Holy Spirit Eph. 4:30 makes us vulnerable to sin and to feed the old self.

Sanctification is sometimes seen as a big word and something that is hard for us to do. However, this is the work of the Spirit, and we can’t make ourselves more holy than thou as much as we try. The Holy Spirit uses all of life’s experiences to change us, convict us, build us up, encourage us, and grow into the fruit of the Spirit that is detailed in Galatians 5.
So, what is our part? There are at least six things we can do to allow the Holy Spirit to work effectively in us for our sanctification: Pray, Worship, Witness, Study/Meditate on God’s Word, and finally, gather as a church and witness.

Paul understood this when he wrote:
