Learn – Inspiration – Vision – Encounter
I often wonder how different we are from any other creature on earth! We have the capacity to think, move, see, and taste. We can speak and communicate. We are given the gift of emotions. In so many ways, we are so complex, and as Psalm 139 says, we are wonderfully made.
Jesus often finished his story or message with the words, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says…this is especially true in the book of Revelation. It assumes that the Spirit speaks and that there is a hearing that may not be just physical but spiritual. I believe the same is true with our vision.
There are things that are unseen that are only seen in the spiritual realm by seeing in the Spirit. The opposite is also true. As 2 Corinthians 4 points out, we were once blind, living in darkness, blinded by the god of this world. There is a line in the hymn Amazing Grace that says, “I was blind, but now I see”. How is this possible? It is possible because the Gospel can open our eyes, and we can see God for who he is in the person of Jesus. This is how Paul puts it:
“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4,6 NIV11-GKE)
Now that we can see the Light that shines in our hearts, we can see how deep and wide the knowledge of God is. I remember one evening when I was praying for some leaders, and the room was filled with the presence of God, and just for a few seconds, I was seeing what looked like an energy field moving in waves surrounding me. It stopped when I realised what I had seen and tried to rationalise it.
