There have been many crossroads in my life, and I am sure it is yours too. Where do we turn, and what shall we do? But perhaps the deeper question is, who do I follow? Because at every turn and crossroads, we are chasing a dream, a goal, an objective. We live and work, trying to reach the dream. I don’t think anything is wrong with that; it is a motivating force that enables us to keep going. Yet, another deep question is, who do I do it for? You, family or someone else?
Crossroads is an opportunity to explore new paths, yet it is filled with excitement and even fear. The excitement of faith, hope, and vision, of dreaming of things that we want to see fulfilled, of overcoming and succeeding. The fear of discouragement, things going wrong, and even regretting the road we chose.
The good news is that we are no longer alone in making important decisions that will affect us. I am not talking about friends and family, even though their counsel sometimes is good. I am referring to the one who created you and me, the one who knows us much better than we could ever know ourselves.
The Lord is there, guiding us and ready to direct us. We need to know this emotionally and rationally, and above all, we need to know this in our spirit.
The first thing we can do to allow the Lord to guide us is to allow him to take control, and we do that by calling out to his Sovereignty, which we do through praying.
This is how David did it, and let us learn from him:
“O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” (Psalm 25,1-5 NLT-SE)
• I give you, my life.
• I trust you.
• Show me the right path.
• Point to me the road to follow.
• Led me by your truth.
• Teach me.
• I put my hope in you.
What if we make this our prayer?
