Day 14

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3,5-6 CSB17)
It is easy to rely on our understanding and believe it is our default mechanism. When things go wrong, we are at a breaking point and feel we need to do something; we are encouraged to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart!”
Our default self will want to take the lead and be in charge. Nevertheless, we know that if it does, then the consequences of our actions and decision-making may pay a high cost. It usually does.
When we are in that place, trusting the Lord is the hardest thing we can do, and when he asks us to stay still, it is even more challenging. So, how can we trust him? If we do, we are promised he will make our path straight. That is guidance, and for guidance to take place, we are told to a) Trust God, b) Not to depend on our understanding, and c) to know him or to acknowledge him.
These key components allow the Spirit of God to guide us. I enjoy how The Message puts it.
“Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’S voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” (Proverbs 3,5-6 MESSAGE)
Trust is central to knowing who you trust, which takes patience and time. It is a process of discovering that the Lord is always good.
“Lord, let me trust you in every step I take, even though I may not understand. Yet because I know you and you know me, I can”.
