“Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40,30-31 CSB17)
These are remarkable words from the Prophet Isaiah that have encouraged millions of millions of people in every century.
What is it about these words that are so inspiring? These words come from the very heart of our creator, who made us in his image and provided us with a way to defeat the enemy within our sins.
Why sins? Because the effect of sin is not only spiritual but also mental and physical. God told us that we will suffer, get tired, and we will have to toil hard; all these make us vulnerable, defenseless, and weak.
I want to take one approach and think about how many of us are mentally tired and faint and that even thinking straight is sometimes challenging work. The temptation to give up, walk away, and leave everything behind is very real. Even for some of us, getting up and facing the day is a big ordeal.
This is why these words of encouragement are welcomed; our youth are facing a pandemic of mental issues, and all of us, if we are honest, faint, get weary, stumble, and fall. Yet, the invitation from the Lord is as real as all these conditions.
“He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength” Isaiah 40:29.”
The Holy Spirit uses the very Words of God and Jesus to remind us, teach us, and, most importantly, sustain us.
Let us give him a chance; let us give him and lay down before him all that we are carrying and take the invitation of Jesus when he offered us an exchange to take his yoke and walk with him.
Let us put our energy in trust in the Lord, who promises to sustain us.
