“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:32-33 NIV11)
Jesus is the greatest overcomer the world has ever seen, heard, or read about!
But I am not him!
Have you ever felt like that? Sometimes, our words run faster than our ability to think through them. Yet they are nevertheless true.
They reveal that we are not as strong as we think and that some measure of disappointment has settled in our hearts and taken root in our souls.
It is hard to articulate what we believe to be true about Jesus’s promises and what is happening around us.
Yet, I have experienced the opposite, as well as so many other people that I know. I have found that I always have more than one way to face the challenges that life throws at me; I can face them by running away from them; the irony is that these challenges follow us wherever we go. We can blame others and seldom take responsibility, playing the victim.
We can internalize them to the point that it may drive us to insanity. Another way is to talk about them with a trusted friend, a loving partner, a Father or a mother. This approach works best.
Something supernatural happens when you can share your thoughts and what troubles you with someone there to listen, love, and support you. We all need that one person in our lives. There is where I have experienced the words of Jesus taking flesh and blood; they become alive as if I can hear Jesus saying, “Have peace, take heart, and I have overcome! So take courage and stand firm.”
