David’s 4 Keys to Intimacy
“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”
(Psalms 27:1–4 NIV11)
“For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior.”
(Psalms 27:5–9 NIV11)
“Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
(Psalms 27:10–14 NIV11)
Intimacy with God is one of the most important aspects of our Faith in Christ. Without intimacy with Him there is no life. We cannot do life without Jesus.
It is to have a face to face encounter with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit! “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,” (Philippians 3:10 NIV11)
1st Key: REST
VS. 4
One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”
David’s desires was to lean upon the Presence of God. Meaning he was actively seeking to be in His Presence. David engaged and sought the beauty of the Lord. David’s hunger led him to a complete surrender and commitment to seek the Presence of God and to Lean on God, to seek God’s face in the temple.
We like David also need to learn how to Lean on the Presence of God. For us is to know who and the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are and what they do. Unlike David the temple of the Holy Spirit is in us. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NIV11)
2 Key: ADORATION
Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
David, is showing us that true Intimacy is born out of a complete surrender in worship to God. Worship is the expression of our hearts as it seeks to be filled with God’s Presence and it is manifested through shouts of Joys, dancing, making music, lifting hands. It is giving God who we are and what we do. Worship elevates us to the realm where God dwells and it is one of God’s best self revelation! “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
(Romans 12:1 NIV11)
3. Key. PRAY
Hear my voice when I call, LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper
David understood that prayer are a time where we get to meet God face to face!
It is a relationship! Prayer is the way we communicate with God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit! It is God’s chosen way for us to get connected to us and the amazing thing about prayer is the fact that God speaks to us!
“Pray continually,” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 NIV11)
4. Key: BEING LED
Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressor
Teach me you ways! When I don’t know what to do and I can come to God and ask Him “teach me your ways”. In intimacy when we come to Him asking for direction, asking for Presence to direct us, to teach us then we know the way forward. We move in faith and when we do so we act in obedience to His Word.
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.””
(John 14:21 NIV11)
