These words were spoken by a woman who was advanced in years and lost all hope of forming a family.
I have always wondered how much joy this pregnancy brought to Elizabeth and Zechariah. The disgrace of being barren was gone and now they were looking ahead and dreaming with their son.
This story is very much part of the nativity. He is also a miracle baby who was set apart with a clear mission and destiny.
Being greeted by Mary, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and the baby in her womb kicked her hard!! Even there John the Baptist was filled with the Presence of the Holy Spirit. He was not even born!!
What about Zechariah! Well, he could not talk! Can you imagine that? For nine months he was not able to say a word. When he heard the news that he was going to be a father in his old age he just nodded!
Sometimes an act of God can cause us to be silent. We are invited to watch how God works out his plans for our lives before we act or say a word!
It could be, that right now you and I need that place!
The invitation to encounter God in a quiet place.
Sometimes we are forced into it like Zech.
Sometimes we enter by our own desire and will.
Mystery and wonder can only be revealed and grow in us when we walk into that quiet place.
Contemplation is an invitation to a heart that is restless. It is the place for those who seek to praise God and to carry his presence.
““Be still, and know that I am God.”
(Psalm 46:10 ESVi)
