Powerful People Need Power
Thoughts from Sunday morning at the Living Room’s Gathering
“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,”
(Ephesians 3:14–16 NIV11)
Paul prays for the church in Ephesus, asking God to reveal who they are and what is their destiny. They are the family of God, a family that is heaven bound and their destiny as sons and daughters is to live out that identity on earth.
Powerful people know who they are and where they come from.
We too are powerful people and our identity is divine, and we have access to heaven’s riches. Powerful people’s destiny is to carry the Presence of God on earth.
Powerful people need power, and Paul is playing with words: Paul prays that we may be strengthened with power meaning that we may increase in vigor with the Power of the Holy Spirit resting on us.
Danielle Strickland at the New Wine Conference in Sligo this year said that we need to pray so that we increase our capacity to have more of God. When that happens then we are filled with the present power of God so that our inner being is touched, transformed and renewed.
Our inner being is who we are and what we do! It is our will, our emotions, our minds, our spirit. It is us. It is the very thing that makes us unique and when we are empowered we become the most graceful powerful race on earth.
